The Snowplow Sam Class is designed to help the young skaters (aged 4 and up) develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. This program offers 30 minutes of professional instruction in a group setting and 30 minutes of practice time. All new skaters begin in this program.
Basic Skills
The Basic Skills Class teaches the fundamentals of the sport in four levels that introduce young skaters to the fundamental moves. This program sets skaters up for success for both figure skating and hockey. This program offers 30 minutes of professional instruction in a group setting and 30 minutes of practice time. Basic 5 and 6 will now be offered during the Introduction to Private Lesson sessions. This class is for skaters that have some previous experience.
Introduction to Private Lessons (IP)
The Introduction to Private Lessons (IP) program is designed to provide a forward transition for higher-level group lesson skaters (levels Basic 4 and above). Skaters will be introduced to the private-lesson experience with a 20 minute private lesson and 40 minutes of practice-ice time. These lessons are designed to provide a jumping-off point where skaters can choose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating. For those choosing to go on to competitive skating, a Freestyle Ice program is offered by the Essex Skating Facility. These lessons are for youth skaters up to 18 years of age.
Excel Class
The EXCEL Class is a special class offered by VSA for skaters who have achieved the Basic 4-6 and Freeskate 1-3 Levels. Skaters must be enrolled in the Intro to Private lessons program to be eligible to take this class. The focus will be on jumps, spins and connecting moves. New this year we will be offering two different levels of EXCEL.
EXCEL 1 combines the following levels: Basic 4 through Basic 6 and Pre Freeskate
EXCEL 2 combines the following levels: Freeskate 1 through Freeskate 6
This is a fantastic and VERY inexpensive way to get on the ice another day! This program requires prior approval by the program director.
Adult Basic Skills
The Adult Basic Skills Class offers an introductory skating curriculum divided into six levels in which beginner to experienced adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated. This program offers 30 minutes of professional instruction in a group setting and 30 minutes of practice time. Adult lessons are for skaters over 18 years of age.
